lover archetype

DISCOVERING ARCHETYPES – DAY 5: THE LOVER ARCHETYPE

The lover archetype represents our ideas of genuine companionship and of seeking this connection. It symbolizes our want of having someone to do things with, share moments with and someone who would truly understand us. This connection can be found in a diverse palette of relationships such as romance, friendship, team mates and colleagues.

Child Archetype

DISCOVERING ARCHETYPES – DAY 4: THE CHILD ARCHETYPE

We have all observed a seventy year old behaving like a child, throwing tantrums or hiding from their caretakers; we have experienced the occasional urge to engage in impulsive shopping and our tendency to sulk and to expect others to console us; these are all the expressions of the child archetype in us. Through this article, we wish to encourage you to reflect upon the ways in which the child in you finds its expression.

Explorer Archetype

DISCOVERING ARCHETYPES – DAY 3: THE EXPLORER ARCHETYPE

Each one of us, at some point in our lives, have struggled to discover our own uniqueness, questioned social obligations, taken risks, set out to explore the unknown and felt the urge to try something new. It is the explorer archetype present in us, that enables us to do this. Also known as the seeker, wanderer and pilgrim, the explorer is a character that seeks to escape the boundaries of their average life by traveling the world or discovering its many mysteries.

SHADOW ARCHETYPE

DISCOVERING ARCHETYPES – DAY 2: THE SHADOW ARCHETYPE

The shadow is that aspect of our personality or psyche that is hidden from our own selves. It lies in our unconscious mind, safely beyond our awareness. The shadow contains our weaknesses, undesired traits, repressed ideas and desires which we find difficult to accept as part of us. It is like our dark side – therefore the name, Shadow. It is often unexpressed and rejected but surely it is always there, just as other archetypes are.

Discovering Archetypes – Day 1: The Persona

The persona refers to the social mask you wear in public. It is the part of your conscious self that you present to the outside world; it is the image you wish to present to others. The persona includes your social roles, and it can be seen as a kind of ‘psychological clothing’ that you wear. However, identifying too strongly with a specific persona can limit your growth in many ways.

Archetypes

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 2015 – “DISCOVERING ARCHETYPES”

This year, we have been feeling a bit mystical and so we are going to be talking about “Discovering Archetypes”! We thought it would be fun if we could take you a bit deeper into the recesses of the human psyche and explore its mystery. We hope that this sneak-peek into the remote, unexplored parts of your mind will help you discover how these sides present themselves in the world around us and most importantly, within ourselves.

Mind Body1

EMOTIONAL HEALING: GETTING IN TOUCH WITH EMOTIONS IN THE BODY

I feel so worried

I’m extremely sad today

I’m very very angry

A feeling is equal to some thoughts and a state of mind – is that it though? When you speak of sadness, anger, fear, despair what do you think these emotions really include? A lot of us mistakenly believe that emotions are just about some thoughts and the way one feels.

This understanding is hugely incomplete

Emotions have a big, big manifestation in the body too. In fact, the body is the seat of emotions.

pain is an ally that lets you look within

DAY 6 : EMOTIONAL PAIN – AN UNUSUAL ALLY

In the end of this series of looking within, I want to talk about an unusual ally that aids you to look within yourself. In fact forces you to do so. –Pain. As I work with people and also with myself, I am more and more convinced that pain is actually a friend. Unless we are pained, helpless, sorrowful, we never really question or look for answers from life.

DAY 5: SELF REFLECTION- USING PAINTINGS AS MIRRORS

Paintings, especially paintings of people, are not just beautiful pieces of art, they can also be artistic ‘mirrors’. Usually, when you look at a painting, you dwell on the art – the figures, their expressions, the colors, how they blend and change. Have you ever stopped to gaze at a painting, while remaining aware of what it brings up in you? How it makes you feel? What thoughts, memories or emotions come up within you while you look at it?

Expressing through doodles

DAY 4: EXPRESSING EMOTIONS- DO YOU FEEL FREE TO DRAW?

The dictionary definition of doodle is to scribble or make a rough drawing absentmindedly. However, doodling, as opposed to drawing, is an activity where you can fearlessly express, without the pressure of having to meet any external standard. A doodle represents something that has meaning exclusively for you. This mental health week, let’s try and see if we can make sense of this activity more ‘present-mindedly’!
